Guest Speaker - Mick Hurren The Fly Fisher
Local businessman Mick (The FlyFisher 36 High St Yea) is a fishing guide, professional photographer/videographer and Olympus ambassador. Mick’s presentation demonstrated not just his knowledge, but his passion, energy and knack for sharing the magic of fly fishing. From trout to Murray cod, Maquarie perch and carp, Mick knows every stream and fishing hole in Murrindindi seemingly being able to read water and habitat like it’s second nature–although despite lots of urgings from the audience, he was not prepared to share all his secrets! Mick also noted that generally women make better fly fishers as they tend to listen intently and have no preconceived ideas about the sport. Mick also touched on how satisfying it is to create his own flies (replicating real flies) which then inevitably snare a fish! After responding to the many questions from the floor, Mick was thanked by Penny who shared that she too was introduced to fly fishing at a young age.3 minuter Tippy Anderson
Tippy spoke of the core concepts of kindness expressed in daily Thai life: genuine selfless generosity, sharing food and helping strangers without expecting anything back. When you greet someone with a smile or extend a hand to them, your own stress levels reduce, you improve your own mental health and have more happiness. Tippy also emphasized the techniques of active listening and showing respect to all.

Pres. Ann welcomed guest speaker Mick Hurren and guests Clare and Kyla. Ann’s first duty was to invite Tippy forward to thank and present her with a PHF +3 sapphires in recognition of her support for the Rotary Foundation. à Yea Rotary ‘scooped the pool’ at the District C/O when Darryl King, Gary Fitzgerald, David Anderson and Penny Paxman were all recognised for their Rotary service. Chair of the Garden Expo Tony Jacobs reported that all vendor sites, bar one, have now been filled. All club members urged to support the committee to publicise and promote the event and take bundles of GE flyers and distribute widely. · Polio Baton Relay August 9th 11am –2pm Organising committee of Penny, Darryl Tippy and David working together to plan a family community event for the End Polio Relay visit to Yea —BBQ, Health Van on site, entertainment, games for children etc. All five Clubs in our cluster will be involved with the relay to raise both awareness and funds. · Les Hall informed the members of the passing of Geoff Smith who was a great supporter of the Club in the 80’s & 90’s. On behalf of the Club, a condolence card will be forwarded to the Smith family. In conclusion President.
