Vocational Visit Our meeting this week was a Vocational Visit to Broadford on Tuesday, where we visited the Rotary SHARE Project, a volunteer project coordinated by the Rotary e-Club of Change Makers, which meets fortnightly online via zoom. The project was launched in 2024, and is run from a warehouse shed in Broadford, collecting medical equipment, educational books and clothing suitable to be forward to programs in countries such as PNG, Fiji, Uganda/Sth Sudan, partnering with Rotary Clubs or not for profit NGOs in the destination countries.
Donations of equipment no longer required, due to refurbishment or updates, are sourced from hospitals, health organisations and schools.
Currently a container is being packed with medical equipment, which will include an Imaging Machine, and clothing which will be bound for Goroka in PNG. RC of Yea visited the new medical facilities in Goroka in 2014.
8 members from Yea—Darryl, Jill, David, Tippy, Gary, Glenn, Julie and Ann made the trip to Broadford, where we were met by Jenny Foster, of the Change Makers Club, who is coordinating the project at ground level. Jenny has established a wide network of leaders, both here and overseas.
After a tour of the facilities, we were tasked with jobs of sorting and repacking boxes of medical equipment for distribution to the various countries who have needs for particular equipment. There is an amazing array of equipment waiting to be shipped—beds, cots, blood pressure machines, mattresses, bandages, gowns, gloves, masks, to name a few!
Thank you to Penny for arranging such an inspirational visit, which sadly she was not well enough to attend herself.
